James Siena was born in 1957 in Oceanside, CA and lives and works in New York, NY. He received his BFA from Cornell University. The abstract painter and printmaker is well known for his intricately detailed, algorithmic designs. His compositions, guided by self imposed rules and geometric grids, are highly loose, personal, even spontaneous. He is the recipient of the Eissner Artist of the Year Award from Cornell University, Lewis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Biennial Award, and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. Siena is included in permanent collections at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Miami Art Museum, FL; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY. Siena is represented by The Pace Gallery, New York, NY and Daniel Weinberg, Los Angeles, CA.
