Michael Schall was born in 1977 and lives and works in New York. He received his MFA from Pratt Institute and BA from Swarthmore College. His painstakingly executed drawings and prints underline the tension between the natural world and the absurdity of society’s large-scale constructions. In this work, the mounds of are made from thousands of tiny circles that the artist drew by hand. Schall's intention was to equate his labor with the absurd amount of time, energy, and resources that would be needed to dig such a large hole. He is the recipient of The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and the Printshop's 2008 Special Editions Residency. Solo exhibitions include Pierogi Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; Platform Gallery, Seattle, WA; and Dan Stuhltrager Gallery, Brooklyn, NY.
