Duke Riley
The U-Line (detail), 2012
Inkjet print, 9.25" x 44" image and sheet
Courtesy of Artist
Duke Riley received his MFA from Pratt Institute and BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. His works combine folklore, reinvented histories, and contemporary social issues, connecting the past and present. His projects often profile the space where water meets land, marking the periphery or urban society. Each year, New York City MTA Arts for Transit commissions artists to create public artworks for the transit system to enhance the commuting environment. The U-Line was one commissioned project that presents a mythical underwater subway line that travels between the boroughs, and presents a world of both chaos and possibility. Exhibitions include Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland, OH; Queens Museum of Art, NY; and Magnan Metz Gallery, New York, NY.
