Amy Sillman was born in 1955 in Detroit, MI and lives and works in New York, NY. She received her MFA from Bard College, BFA from School of Visual Arts, and studied at New York University and Beloit College. In Sillman's work, layers overlap and forms collide to form the rich surfaces of her paintings. Her vibrant, abstract compositions use blocky planes of color and form to approach ideas of psychology, philosophy, memory, and perception. She is the recipient of the Guna S. Mundheim Scholarship, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, Joan Mitchelll Foundation Fellowship, and Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award. Select solo exhibitions include Sikkema Jenkins & Co., New York, NY; Crown Point Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Susan Vielmetter LA Projects, CA, and Galleria Marabini, Bologna, Italy. Sillman is represented by Sikkema Jenkins & Co., New York, NY.

An ultimate collaborator, in 1999 Sillman invited Jef Scharf (born in 1969, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY) to collaborate with her at the Printshop on a benefit portfolio titled Funny-Guy, Junior. Together, the artists created 12 images, and combined each with screenprinted text (a word or a phrase). Each print is an independent narrative.
