Emilio Perez Emilio Perez was born in 1972 in New York where he currently lives and works. He received his MFA from the Pratt Institute, NY. Perez makes abstract paintings by cutting with a blade into layers of latex and acrylic paint, and peeling the cut sections off a dark ground. His dynamic compositions are often inspired by music. His drawings reveal the motion and expression that goes into each brushstroke and evokes a painterly process as the ink and watercolor bleeds and blends to create a euphoric visual melody. Perez was a recipient of the Printshop's 2008 Publishing Residency. Solo exhibitions include FILIALE/Galerie Conrads, Berlin, Germany; Galerie Lelong, New York, NY; Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston, TX; LUXE Gallery, New York, NY; and Rocket Projects, Miami, FL.
