Chris Martin is on fire! After two major museum exhibitions in 2011, his current show at Mitchell-Innes & Nash Gallery in New York is not to be missed!
Born in 1954 in Washington, DC, Martin lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts and attended Yale University. In this work the artist paints his signature motif of broad, wavy bands in an exuberant color palette. His abstract compositions are deeply engaged with some of his favorite music and are known for his use and delight in working with unexpected materials. Select exhibitions include Mitchell-Innes & Nash, NY; Edward Thorp Gallery, New York, NY; Envoy Gallery, New Yok, NY; Bravin Lee Programs, New York, NY; Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany; and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. Martin is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
