Mary Heilmann was born in 1940 in San Francisco, CA and lives and works in New York, NY. She received her MA from University of California at Berkeley, BA from University of California at Santa Barbara, and also studied at San Francisco State University. Her vibrant works, including ceramics and furniture are all abstractions of her imagination; melding the art of craft, pop culture, and fine art. Awards include the Artist Award for Distinguished Body of Work from College Art Association and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Foundation. She has had major exhibitions at Parrish Art Museum, Southampton, New York; New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY; Hauser & Wirth, London, England; Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany; Zwirner & Wirth, New York, NY; and Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA. Her work has been exhibited in several Whitney Biennials and is included in many public collections. Heilmann is represented by 303 Gallery, New York, NY.
