Patty Chang was born in 1972 in San Francisco, CA and lives and works in New York, NY. She received her BFA from the University of California, San Diego. Known for her performance art and performance videos, Chang uses herself as subject to explore the female experience and challenge prescribed female roles. Her brash, physical performances push the boundaries of comfort and force the viewer to reckon with contemporary gender issues. Chang has received grants from the New York Foundation of the Arts, The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Creative Capital Foundation. Select solo exhibitions include Mary Boone Gallery, New York, NY; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; Galerie Gabrielle Maubrie, Paris; and Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden.
