Sonya Blesofsky lives and works in New York, NY. She received her MFA from San Francisco Art Institute and BA from University of California, Santa Cruz. Blesofsky is an installation artist whose constructions are made from foil, paper, cardboard or wax. Inspired by the New York cityscape of development and urban renewal, her works explore the fragility of communities faced with the constant constructing, deconstructing, excavating, renovating and rebuilding that takes place. Her use of precarious materials for architectural structures creates a sense of daunting instability. She was the recipient of several residency programs including Museum of Arts and Design, Smack Mellon, CUE Art Foundation, and Dieu Donné Papermill. Exhibitions include Cuchifritos, New York, NY; Kunsthalle Galapagos, Brooklyn, NY; Islip Art Museum, NY; Swarm Gallery, Oakland, CA; and she is represented by Mixed Greens Gallery, New York, NY.
