Mildred Beltré
Call, 2002
Woodcut and screenprint, 10" x 8" image and sheet
Edition: 45/50
Courtesy of Lower East Side Printshop
Mildred Beltré was born in 1969 and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from the University of Iowa and BA from Carleton College. Beltré is interested in the way images change and develop by simple abstractions such as redrawing the image. She begins with a drawing, sometimes created and abandoned by children, and develops it into her own. She then changes the parameters of scale, medium or drawing tool, and allows a new image to take form. She is the recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts grant and the Printshop's 2006 Keyholder Residency. Select exhibitions include FiveMyles, Brooklyn, NY and International Print Center New York, NY. She teaches printmaking at The University of Vermont.
