Donald Baechler was born in 1956 in Hartford, CT and lives and works in New York, NY. He studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art; Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art; and Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Baechler’s multimedia works probe every day objects and symbols with great attention to surface and line quality. His signature style presents whimsical, nostalgic motifs and a seductive quality of brushwork. He is widely recognized and has shown at the Kunsthalle Basel, the Whitney Biennial, and the Corcoran Biennial. Select solo exhibitions include Fisher Landau Center for Art, Long Island City, NY; Cheim & Read, New York, NY; Galerie Forsblom, Helsinki, Finland; McClain Gallery, Houston, TX; and Galleria in Arco, Torino, Italy. His work is shown in numerous public collections including the Musee National d’Art Moderne, Paris, France; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY.
