Ida Applebroog was born in 1929 in Bronx, NY and lives and works in New York, NY.  She received an Honorary Doctorate at Parsons School of Design, and studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the New York Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. Applebroog’s works are stylistically known for their disfigured human forms with bold outlines themed around gender, sexual identity, mass media, and violence. She is the recipient of many awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Women’s Caucus for Art; and The MacArthur Foundation Achievement Award. Public collections include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY; New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY. Applebroog is represented by Feldman Fine Arts Gallery, New York, NY.
