We are so pleased to honor Enoc Perez for his extraordinary contribution to contemporary printmaking. Over the past few years, the Printshop has had the pleasure to collaborate with Perez on several new bodies of work.
Continuing his exploration of modernist buildings and their architectural allure and romantic evocations, both symbolically and aesthetically, Perez visits the historic Hotel Ponce-Intercontinental in Ponce, Puerto Rico as the subject. The print explores the building’s grandness as a cultural icon and its architectural gentle playfulness. Perez approaches his motif as a painterly abstraction, through a very sensuous treatment of color, vibrant texture, and composition. This print combines layers of hand painting and screenprinting to achieve its richness.
Enoc Perez was born in 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and lives and works in New York, NY. He received his M.F.A. from Hunter College and B.F.A. from Pratt Institute in New York. In 2007 he was the focus of a major survey exhibition at MoCA at Goldman Warehouse, Miami. He has exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris, France; The Collezione Maramotti, Reggio Emilia, Italy; the UCLA Hammer Museum, CA; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, CT; and El Museo del Barrio, NY. Enoc Perez is represented in New York by Acquavella Galleries. |
