Shoshana Dentz about this work:
Collectively titled “home lands”, my work of the past year explores my appreciation of the aesthetic and poetic potential of a chain-link fence, especially in how it can frame our bodies – and souls – in relation to the open and always present sky. The simplicity of the flat negative/positive space in “home lands 14e” yields a surprisingly deep perspective, into the fencing and then up into the sky. The image’s fracture over four panels – a process used in my large works on paper and canvas – further complicates the tension between the flat surface and the compelling invitation into this imagined space.
