Katia Santibañez

Lower East Side Printshop is pleased to present new prints by Katia Santibañez, Gdlyb and 74fnj. Two hard-ground intaglio plates, one with aquatint, and both inked à la poupée, were created in the Printshop’s prestigious Publishing Residency Program. Santibañez was invited as a Publishing Artist in Residence in the fall of 2025, and the editions were completed in collaboration with Printer Ian Ruppenthal in spring 2026.

In 2022, Santibañez made the decision to return to the grid, using only the spiral image– a subject she has embraced and explored since 2012. Continuing to explore the interactions of colors, the artist wanted to reintroduce the idea of repetition and variation, which she associates with chaos and order. In each square sits a spiral, each with a different direction and a unique shape. They are their own character and energy. She chose two colors, one for the edge of the plate and the other for the center. The printing technique à la poupée worked perfectly to blend the two colors, creating a place of wonder, a place where the viewer is mesmerized and invited to slow down and think.
