and non- toxic methods. This is an incredibly versatile technique
that can be put to myriad artistic uses and combined with many othertechniques.
* Please bring an assortment of color and/or black and white photocopies
(inkjet printouts will not work), and any special fabrics or papers
you would like to work with.
DIGITAL TOOLS FOR
PRINTMAKERS
with Doug Bennett
2 day intensive, April 25-26
Saturday - Sunday, 11am - 5pm

This workshop will introduce you to various digital techniques
commonly used in printmaking. Topics covered will include image
preparation (scanning, explanations of file types), image manipulation
(working with layer modes and color separations, halftones, sketching
digitally), and and others. Output of images for collage, and films
for use in traditional printmaking techniques such as screenprinting
and intaglio will be covered. Students will have the opportunity
to produce up to 5 large format transparencies and/or archival inkjet
prints using an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 printer and become familiar
with digital printing services offered by the Printshop. The first
day will cover techniques, and the second for addressing individual
questions. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop CS-CS3 software is recommended.
Providing your own laptop is advised, or the Printshop will provide
one for you at additional cost. For more information about large

MONOTYPE

This comprehensive workshop will introduce you to one of the most
liberating forms of printmaking, with an emphasis on experimentation
and creativity. Learn to create innovative one-of-a-kind prints
using drawing, painting and collage. Explore color mixing, brushwork,
ghost images, chine colle, stencils and unique tools. We will pull
highly developed monotypes by hand and with the aid of the press.
*This class uses only Akua Water-based non-toxic inks.

Explore the wide range of screenprinting techniques in this versatile
medium. Silkscreen allows you to easily print hand-drawn, photographic,
and digital imagery on paper, fabric, and other
surfaces in a variety of colors. You will create handmade and photographic
stencils and learn to use a vacuum table and exposure unit to shoot
screens. Topics will include screen preparation, color separation
for multi-plate prints, correct color mixing, registration, screen
monoprinting, and editioning.

This course provides a broad introduction to basic printmaking
processes. Learn about intaglio techniques by creating a drypoint
and etching, create unique prints with monotype, and carve wood
blocks
for relief printing. Important printmaking techniques used in all
such as paper tearing, ink modification, chine colle, registration,
and printing multiple color plates will also be covered.

IN-DEPTH INTAGLIO

Discover the diverse possibilities of intaglio, which can be used
to create detailed images with a wide range of tones, lines, and
textures. Techniques include etching, dry point, aquatint, soft
ground, spit-bite and more. You will work with copper plates using
etching tools, learn to print on an intaglio press, and explore
variations of color printing.
SILKSCREEN INTENSIVE

This intensive beginning workshop will introduce you to various
screenprinting techniques. Ideal for those with tighter schedules
and would like to focus on screenprinting in a concentrated week-long
session. Print hand-drawn, photographic, and digital imagery on
paper, fabric, and other surfaces in a variety of colors. You will
create handmade and photographic stencils and learn to use a vacuum
table and exposure unit to shoot screens. Topics will include screen
