Mary Temple explores the transformative properties of light, underscoring its ability to inform our perception of space. These conceptual and physical spaces provide a structuring framework for her process of working. Corner Light (Miami), 2008 illuminates light’s structural quality; the layering of hand-cut paper evoking how tenacious and fragile our memories of an environment are.
Temple was born in Arizona. She received her BFA and MFA from Arizona State University and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Temple has exhibited her site-specific paintings exploring cast shadows and architecture, as well as related works on paper, at the Jewish Museum; Smack Mellon; Art in General; the Sculpture Center; International Print Center; Sandroni Rey in Los Angeles; the Aldrich Museum; the Albany University Art Museum; Irvine Art Center; and Mass MOCA.
