Alison Elizabeth Taylor was born in Selma, Alabama and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Recognized for her choice of material—wood veneer inlay; a material once associated with its art historical reference of opulence and wealth—Taylor applies it to discuss contemporary topics, such as the environment, foreclosures, and American youth adrift. She is the recipient of the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Biennial Competition Award. Her work has been the subject of national and international solo and group exhibitions including Savannah College of Art and Design, GA; Puerto de Santander, Spain; James Cohan Gallery Shanghai, China; Exit Art, NY, New York; and Track 16 Gallery, Los Angeles, CA. Public collections include Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas and DesMoines Art Center, IA. Taylor is represented by James Cohan Gallery, New York, NY.
